Chronicling the Wind-Up Bird

Using three excerpts from Haruki Murakami’s Wind-Up Bird Chronicle as inspiration, three drawings were abstracted from an analysis of the text.  Beginning by analyzing the body of text itself as a structural object, rather than interpret its content, each line of each page was broken down in terms of its pace and structure, ultimately providing three pieces of numerical data.  This data was then used as x, y, and z coordinates, allowing each line to be plotted in space, resulting in a spatial translation of the text’s rhythmic structure.  Following the completion of the drawings, a wireframe model was built to explore the space more tangibly.
