A Festival of the Earthly Grotesque

A Festival of the Earthly Grotesque

M.Arch Thesis

Advisor: Martin Bressani

The final part of the thesis project merges prominent techniques and lessons from earlier experiments to envision a fictional festival organized around the act of construction.  Drawing inspiration from the monumental construction of the pyramids or the erection of obelisks, the basic and brute force of massive collective effort is taken as a virtue.  Rather than focusing strictly on the result, here the process is given architectural value as community-building, recognizing in it a sensuous physicality as well as an element of spectacle, drama, and purpose.
